Tariff Engineering and Pilot Production Design
Tariff advantage is created by optimizing product design in favor of the HS code. A rare expertise where engineering and regulation intersect.
Service Details
This service is the most technical and least known item in the portfolio — yet its impact potential is the highest. Tariff engineering moves the HS code classification to an advantageous position by altering the product's physical design or the sequence of production stages. For example, changing the proportion of a specific component in a product or the position of a step during production can move that product to a different tariff position — and this determines the difference between entering the EU with zero percent customs duty versus paying fifteen percent. Work is conducted jointly with the R&D team: product specifications and production flow are redesigned in line with EU rules of origin and tariff advantages, and results are pre-verified through pilot production protocols. When necessary, a Binding Tariff Information (BTI) application is filed to obtain pre-approval from EU customs. This is a service that requires the coexistence of engineering knowledge and customs legislation, with virtually no counterpart in the market.
Highlights
- HS-based design optimization — production process reconfigured without altering the product
- Pilot production and process verification — theory tested in the field; results validated before mass production
- Tariff classification opinion (BTI) — binding pre-approval from EU customs reduces uncertainty to zero
