What is it?
The General Product Safety Regulation has applied since 13 December 2024. Its most concrete requirement is this: a consumer product placed on the EU market must have a responsible economic operator established in the Union. Without one the product cannot lawfully be sold, and online marketplaces remove the listing.
The second requirement is traceability: manufacturer details, batch or serial number and a single electronic point of contact on the product or its packaging. The third is that it is set down in advance who responds, within how many hours, with which document, when something goes wrong.
Why is it necessary?
Even where your product is designed for professional use, it falls within scope if the sales channel makes consumer access reasonably foreseeable. Any product sold through a builders' merchant or a marketplace passes this test.
This service differs from the "authorised representative" offerings common in the market. Without a defensible file behind them, representation services amount to a postal address. We do not sell representation; we produce the file the representative can defend.
