What is it?
The European buyer requests embedded emissions data from its supplier in order to file its declaration. The same buyer then sends a separate supplier questionnaire for its corporate sustainability reporting.
Most producers answer these two requests separately, inconsistently and late. In fact the inputs to both are largely the same.
Why is it necessary?
Data supplied at the right time and in the right format is not a technical formality but a commercial move: it prevents the buyer falling back on default values, protects your price and protects your contract.
Sharing more data than necessary is a separate risk. The buyer does not need your cost structure, supplier names or process parameters in order to file. The boundary of disclosure is set in writing at the outset.
