Digital Product Passport Readiness

Digital Product Passport — Maturity Analysis and Product Family Pilot

We measure your product family's data readiness field by field, identify the owner of each data point and establish a workable pilot plan.

Promise

We measure your product family's data readiness field by field, identify the owner of each field and establish a workable pilot plan.

What is it?

The work sets out the expected data fields in six blocks: identity and traceability, materials and composition, environmental performance, repair and spare parts, compliance documents, and end of life.

Three questions are asked of every field: where is the data produced, who owns it, and in which system is it held? A field that cannot answer all three is flagged as a critical gap.

Why is it necessary?

Experience shows that most critical gaps are organisational rather than technical — the data has no owner. Assigning an owner is both cheaper and faster than building a system.

The same data is requested in European buyers' sustainability questionnaires. Planned together, a single exercise solves two problems.

There is a further benefit rarely discussed: gathering product data requires rethinking the product. Every product rethought is an opportunity for a design registration or a patent — and the party who will see that is the attorney.

What do we promise?

  • We identify the expected data fields and the owner of each, and provide a gap index
  • We surface data conflicts — where the same information is held differently in different systems
  • We select the data carrier (code, tag or data matrix) according to product life and operating environment
  • In the pilot we deliver a working end-to-end data chain for one product family
  • We flag, in a separate note, the protectable elements that emerge during the work

Who is it for?

Producers selling into the EU in the steel, textile, aluminium, furniture, tyre and battery value chains; any company beginning to receive product data requests from its buyers.

How do we work?

  1. 1Selecting the priority product family
  2. 2Extracting the data dictionary
  3. 3Source system map and ownership identification
  4. 4Gap index and critical gaps
  5. 5Data carrier decision and placement design
  6. 6Pilot work plan and implementation

Our limits

The delegated act for the relevant product group may not yet have been published. This work is not a statement of compliance but a readiness assessment; the data dictionary is revisited once the delegated act is published.
