What is it?

Embedded emissions are the total emissions attributable to a tonne of product and form the core measure of the carbon border mechanism. There are three components: direct emissions, emissions from grid electricity, and — in complex goods — the embedded emissions of the input material itself.

The difficult part is not the formula but the data: converting facility-level data to product level, allocating by-products, and collecting precursor data from suppliers.

Why is it necessary?

A calculation that is unverified or undocumented is rejected at verification and your buyer reverts to default values. As important as the calculation itself is that the source of every figure is labelled.

There is a second, less discussed benefit: the production data gathered for the emissions calculation — production route, input list, process steps — is exactly the data an origin analysis requires. A single data effort closes two separate risks.

Our limits

In accordance with the principle of independence, KORDINAT cannot act as verifier. An accredited verifier is recommended and the process coordinated; the verification fee is paid directly by the client.
